Trying to find Malware in an APK...

Hello. I downloaded an APK and VirusTotal and Microsoft Defender keep popping it as a Trojan. I've inspected the APK file using Android Studio but unfortunately not sure what I'm looking at.
The file in question:

My question is, where in the APK files would I find this Trojan buried and how to remove it so I can safely use the APK? I've considered running the app in a sandboxed version of Android but that would severely limit the functionality overall.

Unpack the APK if possible.
Must be just a simple Meterintrepeter merged with apk... otherwise if it was a decent Trojan it wouldn't flag anything.
