I’m going to save you the trouble of reading the much longer post below. Stop using Telegram for your darkweb shit. Just stop it—trust me. If someone on the forum says "Message me on Telegram," they’re just going to try and scam you.
For those who want to keep reading...
Look, I know you think you're being slick by using Telegram. Maybe someone told you it was secure, I mean, fuck... the damn company goes on and on about it themselves, but the truth is that it's not. First and foremost, encrypted messages aren’t even enabled by default. Group channels can’t even be encrypted at all. So, it’s not a "secure messaging service."
Second, you need to use a smartphone and enter your cellphone to even register. Don’t tell me about your burner phone/number that you’re using. That device and number are tied to you by the fact that you’re holding it in your hands. I could give a deep dive on how easy it is to locate any device on a cell network, but most of it would fly right over your head. If your burner has been connected to your WiFi, been at your home or work, or been in your pocket with your personal device, you’re fucked. If you’ve used your actual cellphone number to register your Telegram account, you’re double doggy fucked.
Third, Telegram has been known to hand over data on their users to law enforcement. They have a data retention of 12 months, which is in their privacy policy, and remember, your messages aren’t encrypted by default...
Finally, if someone from these forums tells you to message them on Telegram, they’re a fucking scammer. Period.
I’m going to be putting together a full guide to keeping your secret shit, secret—but I had to get this rant out ASAP.
