Got this crusty iPad 2nd gen, iOS 9.3.6. Slow as hell, but kinda useful—except for one BIG BUT: the thing’s locked to some other account. Scrapped from the office, and the password on the note they gave ain’t workin’.
Every time I boot it up, it’s all ACTIVATION LOCK screaming at me, then asks for the old owner’s Apple ID deets.
Clearnet’s just garbage—full of pseudo-magic “fix-it-all” software. Some folks say you gotta desolder a specific chip at the bottom (GPS and a couple modules are fried, but it still kinda works). Others push Arduino rigs for hacking. Me? I’m stuck with software-only hacks. No physical mods, period.
As a junior tech, I get that software vs. hardware is a losing game [but I have a situation of using only soft].
Some janky software temporarily bypassed the activation. I logged into my iCloud, but the iPad still remembers its ex. Plus, the bypass dies after a reboot or a few hours—none of these apps give a permanent unlock, like KMS for Windows.
Best of the worst I’ve found is a dude named appletech752—he’s got Arduino hacks and tools like Sliver. Last try: I spun up a host on an ancient Ubuntu box with nginx and PHP, dumped Sliver’s PHP script in the root, and connected the iPad to the server. But even that workaround kicked the bucket after 15 minutes.
Honestly? I’d grab a refurbished newer model and peace out.
Hoping this thread doesn’t get nuked fast—curious how to crack this lock. Feels wrong to leave the iPad unhacked. I’m no pro, but wanna dig deep: chips, signals, what controls what. Maybe this thread’ll help others too.
